Weekly Fantasy Football Salary Cap Advice: Don't Be Greedy!
by Lootmeister, Weekly Fantasy Football Handicapper, RotoPicks.com

If you hang around fantasy football chatrooms enough, you'll often times hear some guy bragging about how he picked a salary cap team and spent all but one dollar, almost completely exhausting his available salary on his lineup. While I can appreciate and respect the frugallity of the weekend warrior fantasy football chatapotamous, I can't help but laugh.

Your focus in a weekly fantasy football salary cap league is to build the best team, not spend the most money. It's human nature to want to spend as much as possible as not doing so can leave you with a feeling of "waste." Salary cap dollars are virtual. You use'em or lose'em. I get where weekeend warrior is coming from, but it's just plain wrong.

When scouting players each week, the proper way to put together a team is to eyeball the player pool from head to toe, grouping players that you're considering picking by position. Then and only then do you start mixing and matching to try to stay under the cap.

It's actually very common for a running back with a 10K salary to outscore a RB with a salary of 13k or even 14k. In 2012, Broncos RB Willis McGahee outscored everybody a few different times with a meager salary of of around 8500.

You need to focus on which player's matchups are most favorable and go from there. On an even deeper thought, you need to look at players who have the potential of scoring 1.5 points per $1000 in salary spent. And on that note, now would be a great time to close out this article with a recommendation that you read the following article I linked to in the previous sentence. Got questions? Feel free to drop me a line at lootmeister@hotmail.com. I'm always happy to help RotoPicks.com readers out. Take care - Loot
