Daily Fantasy Baseball Tips
by Derek of RotoPicks.com

Getting used to the grind of daily fantasy sports takes some time. There are so many differences in the daily game than there are in the yearly game. This article is going to give you some tips that every daily fantasy baseball player needs to know. From opponent selection to sites that you should be checking every day, you will want to make sure to read this one!

Let's first start with opponent selection. If you are new to daily fantasy sports or have been having a hard time winning consistently, one of the most overlooked problems is opponent selection. Almost every daily fantasy site out there will let you see who is in head to head leagues. Most sites also have leaderboards that you can check to see how much any player has won that month. This is a huge tool that you should be using to your advantage.

Instead of blindly joining a bunch of leagues and waiting for the good players to join your leagues and eventually take your money, take a more proactive approach and look for when players join head to head leagues. Then as soon as you see who is in that league, quickly search that player's name on the leaderboard to see how experienced of a player they are. If you do this, you can decide who you want to play rather than getting stuck playing the sharks every week. And believe me when I say that the waters are infested!

The next tip is to check the weather every single day. While there aren't too many games that get rained out, you don't want to be stuck with players in one of those games. Your team is almost guaranteed to lose if you get stuck with 4-5 players in a rained out game. Be sure to check the baseball weather page here at RotoPicks. A good rule of thumb is to stay away from any players in a game that has a 60% or greater chance of rain.

Now that you have selected your opponents and have checked the weather, it's time to start making your team. The best tip that I can give you when making your team is to research every day. While this does take quite a bit of time, it is worth it and will help you become a much better daily fantasy player. In baseball, they key statistics that you want to research are Batter vs. Pitcher stats.

A great site to study Batter vs. Pitcher statistics is Yahoo.com. They have a plethora of info there. You have to dig for it, but its golden info! Batter vs. Pitchers stats, or BvP, give you an indication of who has done well vs. each other historically. While this doesnt mean that it's going to happen again for sure, there are many matchups where certain pitchers own certain hitters and likewise.. This can be a great tool for selecting pitchers and hitters. If you see that a player is 10/15 with 4 HR's against a certain pitcher, then you can expect that hitter to have another good game against that pitcher. Don't use BvP to make your whole team, but keep your eye out for really good matchups.

The very last tip that I have for you is probably the most important one. You need to check lineups every day as well. Baseball is unlike other sports in that players will get random days off during the season even if they aren't hurt. You can find this info on our MLB lineups page. Before you make your team final, make sure to check the lineups and make sure that all of your players are playing that day. Missing even one hitter in your lineup puts you at a major disadvantage. We see it happen all the time. Don't let it happen to you!
